Septic Services
How do I know if my septic tank needs to be pumped?
Regular maintenance of your septic system will ensure that you never have a backup of the plumbing into the house or a septic overflow in your yard. The Montana Department of Environmental Quality recommends for residential septic tanks to be pumped every three years; however, the usage of your septic system and the water table in your area can affect how often you need to schedule a pump. If you experience any of the following problems in your home or business, you may need your septic system pumped:
Slow or backed up drains
Stopped or overflowing toilet
Leaking waste pipe
Septic odors (inside or outside home)
Soft spots or liquid pooling in the ground over the drain field
Steps to a healthy septic system
There are several steps we recommend in order to maintain your septic system in between pumps.
Be careful what you flush or dump down the drain - hazardous household wastes and antibacterial soaps can reduce the functionality of your septic system
Try to keep your water usage relatively consistent throughout the week; for example, don’t do all your laundry on one day. High water usage can disturb your septic tank, potentially causing the filter to clog or pushing solids into the drainage area.
Plant only grass, no trees or shrubs over the drainfield as roots can cause clogs.
Do not build anything (such as a shed) or drive on top of the drainfield or any other part of the system.
